URANGAN PIER
Urangan Pier is about 800 meters long and was once used to load ships with local produce such as sugar, coal and timber. It used to be about one kilometer long with an angled section at the end where the ships were loaded. A train line ran the length of the pier, of course this has long since gone as over the years the modes of transport have changed.
The pier fell into disrepair and was to be demolished but the local people fought hard to retain "their" pier. It was sold to the local council which has maintained and refurbished it over the years.
Now it is used by the people for recreation.
To walk, enjoy the views, fresh air and sunshine.
And of course most importantly to catch a great feed of fish Golden Trevally, School Mackeral, Flathead or Snapper just to name a few. So if you're coming for a visit bring your fishing gear.
Walking along the Pier will afford you magnificent uninterrupted views of Fraser Island and at low tide you can watch some of the bird life at rest on the sandbanks.
Although they are much more majestic in the water.
Then again you might meet more locals along the Pier.
But there is more to this area than just the pier and its wildlife.
